Akumal and Area

Originally settled by divers in 1958 who arrived to explore the wreckage of a sunken Spanish galleon, Akumal is one of the region's oldest residential and resort destinations. The offshore reef that shipwrecked the Mantancero, now attracts divers and water enthusiasts from around the world, eager to experience the rich underwater marine life. Half Moon Bay, a half-mile, beautiful whitesand crescent beach, is ideal for snorkeling, fishing and boating, as well as relaxing among the serenity of the surroundings.
